TheSchoolMatch started with one family, a spreadsheet, and a lot of late nights trying to answer a simple question: “Which school is actually right for our kids?”
It began with a move to Qatar
A few years ago we relocated to Doha with two children and a head full of questions. Like thousands of expat families every year, we arrived excited — and quickly overwhelmed. Where do we even start? Which schools follow the British curriculum? What do they really cost once you add registration fees, capital levies, books and transport? How long is the drive at 7am? And which schools were genuinely good versus just good at marketing?
The information was everywhere — and nowhere
We spent weeks stitching together half-answers. Fee schedules were buried in PDFs (when they were published at all). WhatsApp groups were full of opinions but short on facts. Waiting lists, catchment realities and hidden costs only surfaced after we’d already fallen in love with a school. We toured campuses on the other side of the city before realising the commute would eat two hours of our children’s day. It felt like every family was solving the same painful puzzle from scratch, alone.
So we built the tool we wished we’d had
That messy spreadsheet slowly became something bigger. We started collecting real, verified fees — every year group, every extra charge — straight from school websites and the Qatar MOEHE portal.
